LEADERSHIP
STUDENT COUNCIL
The
purpose of the Student Council is to encourage student leadership
and participation in planning school activities. The Student Council
usually meets once a week. The main
officers are President, Secretary, Treasurers, and Religious Coordinator.
Year-long and trimester-long representatives from grades three
through eight are selected and elected from each class. Elections for
offices
are held in the spring with students from grades 1-8 voting; elections
for class representatives
are held at the beginning of each year and each trimester.
PEER MENTORING
Students
are assigned a "buddy" at the beginning of each school year. The older
students are paired with the younger students. Students attend Mass
and other events during the school year with their buddies. The sixth
grade class is paired with the kindergarten class and participates
in curricular projects with their kindergarten buddy on a weekly basis.
The seventh and eighth graders are invited to become kindergarten "aides"
assisting the teacher before school and at other times as needed.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Students participate in service
projects benefiting the local community as well as the global community.
These projects include supporting a clinic at a Dominican Mission,
Heifer International, singing at senior citizen and other local events,
participating in food drives for the food pantry and participating
in the Parish Love Tree during Christmas.
ATHLETICS
Volleyball
and basketball are available to students ordinarily in grades 5-8.
Competition
with nearbyschools and teams is organized through the Santa Rosa Diocesan
School
Athletic League. Participation in sports
is a privilege accorded to students who are cooperating in regard to
academics and discipline.
