| SPIRITUALITY FIRST EUCHARIST/FIRST RECONCILIATION The preparation for and the reception of the Sacrament of First Eucharist (First Communion) is part of the second grade curriculum. The preparation has a strong component of parent participation and parents are required to attend a meeting prior to the commencement of the formal preparation period, to teach a series of lessons on the Eucharist from a text provided by the school, and to see that the child and, preferably the whole family, is participating in Sunday Mass. The children participate in a half-day retreat during school prior to the first reception. First Reconciliation may be received privately any time the parent, child and pastor have ascertained the child’s readiness. Parents are required to attend a meeting prior to the public celebration and to teach a series of lessons on the sacrament. A public celebration of Reconciliation takes place during the Fourth Grade. RECEPTION OF THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION The Sacrament of Reconciliation is made available during the school year, usually during Advent and Lent for all Catholic students who have made First Reconciliation. MASS ATTENDANCE The students and teachers plan liturgies or prayer services. Religious services are held at least once a month and Mass is always celebrated on a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass is usually at 9:00 a.m. and parents and parishioners are encouraged Each Friday during Lent students and teachers plan and participate in the Stations of the Cross. ALTAR SERVERS Students in grades 3-8 are encouraged to become altar servers. Those who wish to sign up should contact our Student Council Religious Coordinator. The parent coordinator for Altar Servers is Debbie Fradelizio. |
